student with laptopThe sooner you reflect on and record an experience, the better. Your memory of the experience will be more vivid, and you'll find it easier to recall the details of the situation, the thoughts you had at the time, and the reasons underlying your response to the situation.

You can add an experience to your ePortfolio whenever you achieve, perform or learn something significant (i.e. something that you feel has contributed to your professional or personal development in some way). These experiences can be drawn from situations at university, at work, in the community, or in your personal life.

Building your ePortfolio should be an ongoing exercise that continues throughout your degree. This will have several benefits:

  • Using Student ePortfolio to reflect on your experiences will help you to recognise the variety and depth of your skills and abilities, and also help you identify areas for improvement.

  • Your ePortfolio will become a very useful resource when you start applying for employment. You will be able to draw on the experiences documented in your ePortfolio when responding to selection criteria and interview questions.

  • The process of reflecting on your learning and development at university should help you to better understand the relationship between your coursework and the graduate capabilities that you are developing at QUT.

To learn more about selecting, reflecting on, and recording experiences in Student ePortfolio, start with Selecting an experience.
