[Print-friendly version]

An Artefact is a document that supports an experience or provides evidence of your skills and achievements. It might be:

  • an example of work that demonstrates your skills (e.g. a written assignment, a website you've developed, a scanned piece of artwork, a video recording of a performance piece, a photo of something that you helped design or build, etc.)

  • evidence of your achievements (e.g. a scanned certificate of merit, a photo of a trophy, etc.)

  • something that supports an experience that you've reflected on in your ePortfolio (e.g. a photo of you participating in a sport or hobby, a letter of appreciation from a community organisation, etc.)

Note that a Student ePortfolio Artefact must be in digital format (i.e. a file that can be viewed on a computer).

QUT has provided you with 128MB of digital storage space in which you can store your Artefact files. You can access this space using the QUT Virtual File Manager.

To create an Artefact:

  1. Click Build and Release your Portfolio on the Student ePortfolio Main Menu. preview

  2. Click the Artefacts tab. preview

  3. Click NEW in the Artefacts box.

An Add New Artefact box will appear on the right. preview

  4. Enter a title that describes the artefact.

  5. Complete the remaining fields (these are optional).

If you have previously uploaded the relevant Artefact file to your QUT digital storage space using File Manager, click the SELECT button next to the File field. A new window will open containing a list of your uploaded files. Click in the radio button next to the relevant file, and click the SELECT button located above the list.

If you have stored your Artefact file in another location (e.g. an account on a faculty-based student Web server or a commercial ISP's Web server), enter the Web address of the file into the URL field.

If the file is large, or requires particular viewing software, it is good practice to include these details in the File Size and Software Requirements fields as a courtesy to visitors.

  6. Click SAVE.

  7. Click OK. preview

Note that this artefact will NOT be visible to anyone else unless you choose to include the artefact in a Portfolio View and then release that View to another person.
